History Of The Tank (1)
There have been many tanks made since they first were used in WW1, some have been bad in the way that they used Deutsch connectors and electrical components and others have just been terrible in general.
The trench warfare was getting sides nowhere which is why the tank was actually introduces by the British in 1916. The word tank actually comes from the British as when the tank was in development they lied and said that they were water tanks to transport water.
These are just a few of the many tanks we have seen since that famous battle of Somme.
It really starts with the first World War so it would make a lot of sense if I was to start here too.
The first tank known simply as the Mark I Tank or “Mother” was designed by William Ashbee Tritton and Walter Gordon Wilson. The D1 was the first tank to actually enter a battle which was of course several models after the firsrt. Flers-Courcellette was actually the first time the tank was seen but more famously was the Somme which is why it is sometimes used as the tanks first battle.
Because of the rain and the fighting the mud hud been churned up a lot of times and this is what made Tank Warfare almost impossible. There were countless times of the tanks getting stuck and they rarely made much of a difference to the battle. The first tank battle actually occured in 1918 and was held between six tanks, three from the British and three from the Germans despite Germany only making 15 tanks during the war. The British prevailed but both encountered some serious problems.
So although none of these tanks had mil spec cables within them they still proved to be feared in the battlefield and without a doubt they at least made a small impact on the war effort.
Part two of this in depth feature will go into a lot of details about WW2 and how tanks made a huge impact on how we saw war.
